In this pv magazine Webinar, our initiative partner Jinko Solar brought together four experts from market analysis and upstream business to discuss the impacts of the advent of bifacial module technology.
Andrea Viaro, of module manufacturer Jinko Solar, will explain how Jinko has reacted to market trends and observations over the last years to develop a bifacial product strategy. By tweaking the plant design, Jinko says, asset owners can accommodate various demand patterns or value profiles. With the technology being in the field for some time now, it is possible to validate LCOE and energy yield assessments for better predictability of profit margins for this technology.
Additionally, Viaro will discuss the possibilities in the rather new field of combining photovoltaic and agriculture and Jinko Solar will present some data on the various system designs such as single-axis tracking, east-west or vertical orientation, and its effect on yield.
Along with him, Eric Kuo, of tracker manufacturer NEXTracker, will talk about how his company has adapted their design to maximize yield if bifacial modules are used with single-axis trackers. Beyond general bifacial adaptation, the tracker supplier will also explain how comprehensive product compatibility with Jinko’s modules had been achieved.
Further upstream, Kaushik Roy Choudhury, Global Technical Leader of DuPont Photovoltaic Reliability program will speak about transparent backsheets as used in Jinko’s Swan modules. At first, bifacial modules came as a glass-glass option, though some in the industry were concerned about weight and durability and the possibility of accommodating frameless designs of such modules. These issues have allegedly been addressed with transparent back sheets as DuPont asserts that they can help lower the Total Cost of Ownership. The manufacturer reports that the product has shown strong UV stability and weathering resistance ensuring long-term performance, lower installation and O&M cost with lighter weight and easy cleaning, as well as a mature manufacturing process with no additional investment.
Chief Analyst at PV InfoLink, Corrine Lin, will make the quartet complete by sharing market insights on bifacial modules and show which regional markets are booming and what the most popular applications are and will be.
